Who are we?

Norfolk Green started out in 1996 with the ambition of improving both the quality and quantity of bus travel in West Norfolk and beyond.

From an initial four buses, we now have a fleet of 51 on a network that spans 80 miles across Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. In 2007 our buses covered two and a half million miles and carried 2.1 million passengers. On Coasthopper, we beat all records to carry 166,000 passengers in the year, and in King's Lynn, our already popular town buses attracted 14% more users.

All decision-making and day-to-day management of the business is done locally, from our base in King's Lynn.

We have grown rapidly over the last 12 years, but our philosophy remains the same - to provide high quality, safe, reliable, friendly, value for money bus travel for everyone. Whilst we have exciting plans for the future, we will never take our eyes off providing a reliable service every day - and that sets us apart.

Our routes
Our focus is on providing bus services that people want to use day in, day out. Increasingly, as traffic levels rise and congestion becomes more widespread, that focus is about making sure we arrive when we’re due.

We have an incredibly strong and positive relationship with our public transport authority partners, which has allowed us to develop from scratch many inter-urban and rural services that simply didn't exist before we set up in business. We're also becoming a more familiar and popular option for people living within King's Lynn wanting frequent, direct buses to and from the rejuvenated shopping centre.

Our buses
Already in 2008, we have invested a quarter of a million pounds in continuing to update our fleet, with two further new 42-seat state-of-the-art buses, with 'green' low emission engines. We have a programme of investment in CCTV, satellite tracking equipment and high-visibility electronic information screens to keep our customers safe and informed.

Our fares
Our state-of-the-art ticket machines have allowed us to develop more ticket offers, such as special fares for groups of two adults and two under-16s travelling together and weekly tickets for regular passengers on almost all of our routes.

We accept senior and disabled persons' English National Bus Passes on our buses at the times that these are valid – further details of these schemes can be obtained from our 'handy links' page. Please have your pass ready when you get on the bus, and if you’ve left it at home – sorry, but you’ll have to pay!

We can't accept payment by debit or credit card on our buses (yet!) so you'll have to pay the driver in cash. Although there’s always times when all you have is a £20 note, it does help if you can have the right money ready when you get on the bus to speed things up and avoid the driver running out of change.

Talk to us!
If we've made your day, don't keep it to yourself, share it with us – if something hasn't gone quite right, tell us about that too so we can try to put things right for next time. Our contact details are shown below.

Our investment in our fleet means that around 75% of our passengers travel on modern buses without steps and with special areas on board for wheelchairs and buggies. At busy times our driver may ask you to fold down your buggy when on board for safety reasons.

Buses on these routes are normally step-free: FairsteadOne, 4, 29, 45, 46, 48, 60, 66, 505, X5, X6, X8 and X29. Also, some Coasthopper buses are now step-free too.

All timetables on this website now have a buggy symbol shown above each journey which is normally run with a step-free bus.

However, in the unlikely event that a step-free bus is unavailable we
may have to substitute an older bus with steps. If you need to make
sure your bus will be step-free, give us a call during Monday to
Friday office hours on 01553 776980.
